Open Faculty Position in Philosophy at Forman Christian College/University Lahore, Pakistan

The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in philosophy or will own a masters degree in philosophy and be in process toward the Ph.D., with solid recommendations that indicate effective classroom skills. S/he will be expected to teach seven courses per year and be involved in regular university support service, as in student advising and committee work. University resources support and the successful candidate is encouraged to continue research and interaction with the philosophical community. Those who might be interested in using a sabbatical or a post- retirement opportunity should also inquire.

The institution provides one round trip airfare annually for every ex-pat as well as on campus housing in addition to the salary. The salary is commensurate with the experience and education of the successful candidate.

While the teaching expectation is 3/4, that is, three classes in one semester and four in the other, each being a three (3) credit course, there is flexibility to accommodate the research and other demands that may from time to time be placed on the instructor. The academic system is identical to the American educational semester system.

The Area of specialization is flexible, but the need is for someone from an analytic perspective who can teach in the areas of philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, epistemology, etc. The teaching load would share the Introduction courses, history of philosophy, and logic.

Dietrich von Hildebrand Legacy Project: German--English Translation

The Dietrich von Hildebrand Legacy Project exists to produce, publish, and disseminate English translations of the philosophical works of the German phenomenologist, Dietrich von Hildebrand (1889-1977). The Legacy Project seeks translators who are philosophically trained and who are familiar with the philosophical language used within the school of Husserl. Candidates should be capable of making translations of the highest quality, uniting aspirations for conceptual fidelity with the ability to produce a flowing and natural English text. They should also be in a position to translate a German text of several hundred pages within 7-8 months. Compensation will be in accordance with current standards for academic translation.

They should submit it publications@hildebrandlegacy.org by midnight EST January 4, 2012, along with a brief CV highlighting their knowledge of German and of phenomenology, as well as their previous translation experience. Contracts for translating the works of von Hildebrand will be offered to those who are deemed by the Legacy Project to be the best translators. The Legacy Project reserves the right not to select a translator and to announce future translator searches.

Kenrick-Glennon Seminary: Full-time College & Pre-Theology Philosophy Professor

Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in its college and pre-theology philosophy program. AOS: Thomistic Metaphysics. Mount St. Mary's University: Assistant Professor of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary’s University invites outstanding teacher-scholars to apply for a tenure-track position to commence August 1, 2012. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the campus community. AOS: Ancient Philosophy and/or Virtue Ethics; AOC: open, but the department has a strong interest in candidates qualified to teach bio-ethics and/or environmental ethics/philosophy. The successful candidate will be well-versed in the history of philosophy and qualified to teach both a two-semester historically structured introduction to philosophy, and a Moral Philosophy course, both requirements of the university’s core curriculum. The Philosophy Department at Saint Joseph’s University is recruiting for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2012. AOS: Ethics, AOC: Applied Ethics

Duties and Responsibilities: Three undergraduate courses, typically two preps, per semester; advising and committee duties; opportunities for teaching in honors and service-learning programs. Candidates should be prepared to teach multiple sections of our core course, “Moral Foundations,” as well as introductory-level courses in either one of our two additional core areas: Philosophical Anthropology; Faith and Reason.
