Dear Members of the ACPA,

On behalf of the ACPA, I am pleased to invite all ACPA members to attend this year’s Annual Meeting on ‘Freedom, Will and Nature,” to be held in Milwaukee, WI, Nov. 9-11.  I would also like to invite all constituent members to vote in this year’s election.

Annual Meeting on “Freedom, Will and Human Nature” to be held at the Milwaukee City Center Hotel, Nov. 9-11, 2007.

Enclosed you will find the registration materials and program that you will need for the 2007 Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, WI.  On behalf of the association, I would like to thank Marquette University for hosting the event.  I would also like to thank all those who submitted papers for the meeting, and especially the members of the Program Committee: Chris Arroyo, Jonathan Sanford, John Zeis.

The reduced rate for ACPA members is $119.00 per night for single or double occupancy (plus applicable local taxes).  In order to guarantee this reduced rate, you must make your reservations no later than Oct. 15, 2007.  Call the hotel at (414) 271-7250 or 1-800-Hiltons.  You must identify yourself as being with the ACPA.

You may register for the meeting in advance (for $50.00) or at the meeting (for $55.00).  The registration fee for students is $15.00.  The banquet price is $48.00, and includes the cost of wine and gratuity.  You can register for the event and purchase banquet tickets by using the enclosed form.  You will not be able to buy banquet tickets at the event. The Hilton Milwaukee City Center is located in the center of the city’s business, entertainment, and cultural districts.  Many of the city’s attractions are within easy walking distance, including Marquette University and the Gesu, Lake Michigan’s shoreline, The Shops of Grand Avenue, Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, the Water Street entertainment area, Milwaukee’s Theater District, and The Museum Center.  It is also located just 15 minutes from the General Mitchell International Airport.

Election of ACPA Officers

Enclosed you will find a ballot, a pre-addressed envelope, and “Brief Biographies of the Nominees,” for the purpose of this year’s election.  All constituent members of the Association (i.e., all members excluding institutional, library, associate, and student members) are eligible to vote.   Eligible voters should send their completed ballot to the National Office at the University of St. Thomas no later than April 1, 2008.  Be sure to print and sign your name on the back of the envelope; without your name and signature, your ballot will not be valid.

Future ACPA Meetings

The 2008 meeting will be hosted by Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.  The conference theme will be “Forgiveness.”  For submission guidelines and more details, visit the ACPA’s web-site: http://www.acpaweb.org/2008meetcall.htm.

Dues Reminder

If you have not already done so, please be sure to pay your ACPA dues (dues notices were mailed to all members in May of this year).  The timely payment of your dues will eliminate the need for reminder notices and thereby help to reduce the ACPA’s overall costs.  If you are unsure of your membership status, or want to confirm that you are up-to-date with your dues payments, simply call the toll-free number of the ACPA’s Subscription and Membership Services (c/o the Philosophy Documentation Center) at 1-800-444-2419.

Necrology

If you know of a member who has died during this past two years, then please send relevant details to me at osborntm@stthom.edu.

New Secretary

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new National Secretary of the ACPA.  I would like to publicly thank Michael Baur, the former National Secretary, for his help in the transition and for his years of service.  The National Office has also moved from Fordham University to the University of St. Thomas (Houston).  We should all be thankful to Michael and to Fordham University for its many years of institutional and financial support.

Sincerely Yours,

Thomas Osborne, ACPA Secretary
