University of St. Thomas
Full-time Assistant Professor of Catholic Studies (tenure track)
Beginning Fall 2010

 

 

The University of St. Thomas, Department of Catholic Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin September 2010 at the rank of assistant professor. Area of expertise is open, however as an interdisciplinary department, we are seeking candidates with knowledge of several dimensions of the Catholic intellectual tradition. Candidates from areas other than theology are encouraged to apply. Ph.D. prior to appointment preferred but not required, ABD with close completion date will be considered. Applicants should have outstanding teaching and writing skills and the virtue of collegiality. The Department of Catholic Studies offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and is committed to sustaining and developing the Catholic intellectual tradition. In this we are guided by the principles of Ex Corde Ecclesiae and Fides et Ratio. We seek candidates who share these commitments and are willing to contribute to the work of the department. The teaching load is six courses per year; including the possibility of teaching in our graduate program; there are standard non-teaching duties.

The University of Dayton
University Professor of Faith and Culture
Beginning August 2009


Applicants must have a distinguished record of scholarship in areas related to the intersections of faith and culture, within the context of the Catholic intellectual tradition. The University Professor’s primary responsibilities will be: to advance intellectual engagement, both on campus and nationally, through research and scholarship; to teach two courses each academic year in the doctoral program in theology or other appropriate program; and to contribute to faculty development related to the significance of faith for cultural analysis and for academic life at a Catholic and Marianist university. The University Professor of Faith and Culture also will serve as a national resource for research on Catholic faith and contemporary culture through the organization of conferences, symposia, institutes, or seminars of the highest academic quality. Experience working with scholars and students of diverse backgrounds is preferred. Applicants must hold a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree and be qualified for appointment at the rank of Professor in an academic department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Dayton. The University Professor’s primary academic discipline need not be religious studies or theology. Salary is competitive. Term of appointment is negotiable.

Christendom College
Graduate School
of Theology - Assistant Professor

Beginning Fall 2009

The Notre Dame Graduate School of Christendom College announces the opening of a full-time faculty position to teach in our master's-level graduate theology program beginning September 1, 2009, at our Alexandria, VA, (Metro DC area) campus.  Consideration will be given to applicants at all academic ranks.  Applicants should have a doctorate (Ph.D. or STD), be familiar with the works and thought of Thomas Aquinas, and be able to teach a variety of courses in systematic theology. An additional competence in moral theology is an advantage. Position involves teaching seven courses per year, including summer, to adult students of varying ages and backgrounds.  Christendom emphasizes teaching excellence in faculty hiring and advancement. Theology faculty must be willing to make a Profession of Faith and take the Oath of Fidelity.

Department of Philosophy – Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Philosophy

Beginning July 1, 2009

The Department of Philosophy of St. Thomas More College invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2009.  The STM Department of Philosophy offers its own program leading to a BA in Philosophy from the University of Saskatchewan.  Faculty in the Department also work in collaboration with the University of Saskatchewan Department of Philosophy in offering undergraduate and graduate programs in Philosophy.

The successful candidate will be expected to have completed a PhD in Philosophy, with an area of specialization in Contemporary Continental Philosophy, by the time the appointment commences.  The areas of competence are open. 

STM is committed to high-quality teaching.  The candidate will be expected to contribute at both the undergraduate and graduate level.  Candidates will also be expected to have an active program of research, with an interest in collaborative research in an interdisciplinary environment.  The Department has strengths in ancient and medieval philosophy, ethics and philosophy of law.

SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO SEMINARY

Philosophy Department – Assistant Professor

Beginning Fall 2009

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Philosophy for Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year. 

Ph.D. in Philosophy is required (ABD considered).  The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 load in the College Division.  Candidate must possess strong sense of perennial philosophy and have an appreciation for ancient and medieval thought, including a familiarity with the work of Saint Thomas Aquinas.  Candidate will be able to teach Introduction to Philosophy, Symbolic and Syllogistic Logic, Epistemology, and the History of Western Philosophy with a concentration in Later Modern and Contemporary Philosophy (nineteenth and twentieth centuries). 

Candidate must demonstrate prior teaching excellence and be a practicing Catholic.  Candidate will make a profession of faith and oath of fidelity to the Magisterium.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, Lewiston, NY.  Niagara University, a four-year private Catholic university in the Vincentian tradition, seeks to hire an Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning Fall 2009. Responsibilities: teaching undergraduate philosophy courses (4/3 load for the first year of appointment, but the university will move to a 3/3 load every year thereafter: 2 preps each semester), active program of research and potential for scholarly publication, and normal service duties. Qualifications include: Ph.D. in Philosophy by time of appointment and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research.
